Surprise!

On the 29 June, our dry and dusty winter was interrupted with rolls of thunder and the odd flash of lightning one Sunday afternoon.  This is totally out of character for us as normally our first rains are only due towards the end of September.  It saw pedestrians looking for bridges to shelter under, and in the suburbs residents hurriedly gathering in the washing off the line and rushing to get the soft comfortable patio furniture under cover as soon as possible as it just came down without much warning.

There's still dust in the country

Just to get out of the city we took a drive one winter's afternoon and ended up in the Skeerpoort area.  We took a right onto a dirt road and never passed a car, then while we had stopped to take the first couple of pictures above a huge truck roared past us.  There wasn't a breath of wind so it took a while to clear leaving us immersed in a dream-like state of watching the locals carrying on as if nothing had happened!
