An African Eveing Sky

A stunning warm evening to watch a glorious sunset go by to the West of Sandton City, Johannesburg.  We then noticed flashes in the clouds at the bottom left in the sunset picture.  As we had no tripods with us, thought we would try to capture the lightning just hand-holding our cameras and after many near misses managed to get two or three, the best being this one.

3D Kodak Camera

I recently purchased a Kodak 3D camera (in perfect condition), manufactured in the 1950's. Busy researching the best ways to post 3D on the internet!  Derrick

Jacaranda City

We took a special trip to Pretoria on Sunday afternoon to see the Jacarandas and WOW! we were not disappointed!  They must have planted literally zillions of these wonderful trees many years ago and  have rewarded/enthralled inhabitants and droves of visitors alike from all over the world.  They are everywhere, no selected areas, just everywhere from the affluent Waterkloof and down on to the city, no distinction of good or bad areas, just EVERYWHERE!!  Do these lucky people really know how privileged they are to live in a Garden of Eden like this - I wonder!  If you live in neighbouring Joburg, go and take a look and why not include an early, light supper as well. (like we did!)

Jacarandas in Joburg

October is Jacaranda month in South Africa and they are especially lovely this year.  Pretoria is the Jacaranda City but I think Joburg does a pretty good job itself!!  Some are enormous trees, the second last shot is ONE tree!!  The fourth pic is of two trees both in ONE yard, very lucky indeed!  Also, the 'blue' colour can vary from a lighter to darker shade of 'blue'.
The 'blue' colour is unique to the Jacaranda flower and it is very difficult to reproduce properly but I have tried my best, setting my camera to the closest setting that will allow the closest 'blue' as it is magnificent to see on the spot!  The pictures tinged in pink were taken one afternoon as the sun dipped in the West, crimson-tipping the huge trees.

A Perfect Place to Be!

A perfect African sunset in the Magaliesburg hills, a warm gentle breeze playing in the long dry grass with a soft rustle every now and then.  Later a silent 'apricot' moon came up and sailed across the evening sky!
