An Orange Sky

Our winters are rain-less so the grass turns yellow and dies and the dirt roads send forth clouds of dust into the still air in the driver's wake enveloping any poor human being who happens to be walking to or from his or her destination.  Unfortunately also during this time of the year bush fires are common place and one can easily be seen on the mountain's ridge burning brightly in the close-up night-time photograph.  The sky here is a 'thoroughfare' for flights to and from Europe and other destinations and during my six minute time expose two airplanes crossed the frame.  During our many times spent out here at the dam we have chanced to see strange lights in the sky.....  No matter what, the dust and smoke does however make for stunning photographs whether they be taken at sunset or sunrise.

Broken Dreams

This is an advertisement for unit No 1153 on the internet - not sure why it's still on.....
NB!!!! This is R3 million unit that is being syndicated.
Experience the wonder of Venice in a luxury Venetian Villa with waterfront frontage onto a canal with direct access to Hartebeespoort Dam.

The architectural style is Venetian with a triple story villa, offering a ground floor entertainment level which also has undercover place for a boat or car parking, a second floor living area with lounge, dining room and kitchen and a third floor bedroom level with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (main en-suite).
Romantic Juliet balconies are a feature of the upper levels.

But, Venice Village appears to have been stopped in it's tracks!  No further building has taken place for a very long time as everything is overgrown and the waterways stagnant.  The soil here is unstable clay-ee soil and possibly the reason why construction was halted resulting in many millions of Rands 'floating' quite literally to the bottom of Hartebeespoort Dam.  (In the longshot you can see these double storey red roofs in the middle of the photograph.)

RainMaker

This year our South African summer in the Johannesburg area was a very wet one.  Clouds like these brewed heavy and dark across the sky on a daily basis dumping zillions of liters of water over the countryside leaving it green and lush, our rivers running full and wide and our dams up to the top.
