Egyptian Ibis at Hartebeespoort Dam for their summer break. (One pity about photographing birds - they must always fly 'away' from you....)

A Bird of a different feather....
Preparing for landing at OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg - glistening in the crisp winter's sunlight it passed noisily overhead while having our coffee early one Sunday morning!

'Whites'
The Whites family contains more than two thousand species with a great diversity of color in spite of their name. Yellow and orange are the colors of very many Whites.
We came across these drifting over the roads and across the fields like flurries of light snow in the Heidelberg area. In spite of it being a very windy day we stopped to take a couple of pictures, not an easy feat with the long stems of these flowers waving wildly in the breeze.

Lucky Strikes !
After a light lunch in Cullinan we headed back to Johannesburg and straight into a storm! Approaching Pretoria there was lightning all around, no particular area which made things very difficult to know which way to point one's camera. However there was no stopping to set up a tripod so I aimed through my open window, held on to the shutter for a few seconds, released, and then repeated this action. Fortunately when the rain did come it came from the other side hitting the driver's window.
You can see from the first one that it is still during the afternoon and from then on the lights of the highway into Pretoria are shown in squiggly lines, the straight-ish red ones being cars passing us. I was very pleased with the results and will most certainly try it again!
